where are you located?

Inside of the 1078 Gallery at 1710 Park Avenue! We know it can be tricky to find us since there isn’t any identifying signage outside, but we promise we’re in there. Our space is on the corner of Park and 17th, you can’t miss it!

what are your hours?

Check out our schedule + location tab! Then check our calendar for scheduled / irregular closures.

are you hiring?

Nope, we are not hiring! It is not something we are interested in taking on at this time.

how do you make your syrups?

Eileen makes them all by hand and the recipes are a secret! Rylan has NOTHING to do with them so asking him is useless. Don’t ask Eileen either, it makes things awkward! This is our livelihood, we’re sure you can understand why we are unwilling to just go around giving out our recipes.

do you have almond milk?

Nope! We offer oat, soy, and coconut milk alternatives and are very happy with that selection.

Why not? Well, we have several reasons. One being that our son has a very severe nut allergy and we like the idea of having an allergy friendly environment to most. If we ever did carry it, we’d choose Beber Almondmilk! It’s the best. Another reason is that we do not have the storage space available for more options. It’s a small place!

what’s the wifi password?

We don’t offer wifi, sorry! We know that’s strange for a coffee shop these days, but if we’re being honest, we’re not really sure how that came to be expected of a coffee shop anyway. It may be a really nice convenience, but it’s not really necessary for us due to the fact that we have very limited seating available in the first place.

will you ever have indoor seating?

Most of the time, the answer to this is no. When the rotating art shows permit, the gallery sometimes permits us to have some of our tables and chairs inside. Sometimes it doesn’t work with the show and that A-OK.

We do consistently have limited outdoor seating, but we understand not everyone is happy with that.

Who owns this?

See here.

who is your tattoo artist?

Jeremy Golden. If you’re a good, kind person and you’re ever in Chicago, book him! We fully endorse him as a tattoo artist as well as a wonderful human being.

do you have blended drinks? white mochas? caramel?

No. And just so you know what to expect, we never will. Check out our menu here to see what we offer!

do you have food?

YES! We are happy to say that Tin Roof is back up and running and we are once again carrying their baked goods. Unfortunately, we do not have any vegan or gluten free options at this time.

who designs your artwork?

A plethora of incredibly talented and (mostly) local artists. Check out the artwork tab for more info on each of our designs. If you click on the photo you’re interested in, it should redirect you to the creator’s Instagram profile.

where is your truck now? are you going to sell it?

The truck is at home! Yes, we are trying to sell it. Interested or know anyone who is? Send us a message through our contact form.

How did you come up with the name “equilateral”?

Well, first of all, Eileen really loves triangles. Just before buying the truck, the two of us were lying in bed brainstorming names. We knew we didn’t want anything cliche sounding, and after a long period of silence — Rylan quietly mumbled “……how about Equilateral Coffee?”. Luckily for Rylan and his anxiety, Eileen loved the name right away. We feel the name encompasses much of what is important to us, namely equality and equity. We’ve always wanted to create an environment that doesn’t feel hierarchal or give off the vibe of superiority. Being queer business owners and minorities, we’ve always been acutely aware of inequality and wanted to be upfront about our desire to fight back against the status quo.

can you cater our event?

No, we cannot! Once we moved out of the truck all of our equipment moved with us. Now the truck is just a shell and there’s nothing left in there to make coffee with. It’s also just the two of us, so it isn’t really possible to run both a cafe and a coffee truck.

Will you stay open for our evening event or come in on your day off for our event?

Not at this time, and maybe not ever if we’re being honest. We weren’t made to work our lives away and having healthy boundaries is incredibly important for everyone! We love Equilateral, but it’s not sustainable to overwork ourselves more than we already are. As it is, we really don’t have much free time, so it’s not worth it to sacrifice what little is left.

We are so grateful for this community. You are supporting our dream. Saying no is difficult, but being a business owner is more time consuming than we could have ever planned for, so saying no is a bit of a necessity at this point. We may revisit this if we ever hire a staff to help us run Equilateral.

are you interested in switching to our roastery?

Nope, absolutely not! We are completely committed to and in love with Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters. We’re not even mildly curious about the other “fish in the sea”. We chose Wrecking Ball because we share the same values and we mesh really well. We also adore Trish and the rest of the Wrecking Ball crew.

do you sell your housemade syrups?

No, and we don’t have plans to. Not even if you ask really nicely, which many of you have! We’re too busy, they’re very time consuming, and Eileen spends enough time crafting them as it is. We’re sure they’d be a hit like you all say, but honestly that’s part of the problem haha.

Where are the plants?

Their entrance is located on 17th Street right behind us! Harvests + Habitats is a separate business that has their own schedule and hours. We love what they do and are grateful to share the space with them and the 1078 Gallery.

can i make a mobile order?

You can. We prefer the order is submitted by text rather than call as it can be difficult to answer calls and field questions when there are only two of us. Understandably, when things get busy, mobile orders are not prioritized over the customers waiting in line so there may be times we are not accepting mobile orders.
